The Systematic Section
Emplacement and area
The systematic section is situated in the immediate
proximity of the main entrance in "A. Fatu" Botanic Garden,
on the left side of the central axis, where, on a 4.61 ha area, 700
herbaceous and lignaceous taxa are cultivated and distributed according
to their natural similarities in divisions, orders and families.
Description
The terrain allocated to this section is crossed
by a series of radial and circular alleys permitting the sightseeing
and presenting in the same time a scientific role (phylogenetic) because
they are separating the orders and families. A three meters wide circular
alley separates the dialipetalous orders (polypetalous corollas –
the petals are not joined) situated in the section's centre by the sympetalous
orders (the petals are joined) situated at the periphery of this section.
Alongside the entrance, on the left side, can be observed two specimens
of Metasequoia gliptostroboides (Taxodiaceae), species
known only as a fossil plant until 1941 when it has been discovered
by two Chinese students, Cheng and Hu, growing in the forests from centre
of China.
At the entrance in the Systematic section, on three sides of a small
rectangular space there are the busts of three ex-directors of the Botanic
Garden:
- Prof. dr. Constantin Papp
- Prof. dr. Constantin Burduja
- Prof. dr. Emilian Topa
From this point, two alleys bordered by Thuja
occidentalis 'Fastigiata' are splitting and are delimiting a wide
parterre decorated by common box (Buxus sempervirens) and roses.
Among these plants, in spring, flower numerous narcissi (Narcissus
poeticus ssp. radiiflorus).
Right in the centre of the section, around the water basin presenting
aquatic species and an "Auditorium" (construction of stone
and wood) are grouped the representatives of Ranunculaceae,
Berberidaceae, Lardizabalaceae, Ebenaceae
etc. families.
In the same
place, there are two rockeries presenting rare or endemic species from
the Romanian flora. A fountain realized in Moldavian style increases
the cultural patrimony of the Systematic section.
In the Systematic section can also be found:
-
representatives of Oleaceae family,
represented by collections of Ligustrum, Fraxinus
and Syringa genera;
- numerous representatives of Asteraceae (Compositae)
family;
-
representatives of Brassicaceae family
(Erysimum witmanni, Alyssum borzaeanum and Schivereckia
podolica);
-
representatives of Caryophyllaceae
family, characterized by a great number of rare and protected species,
cultivated on the rockery specially reserved for this family: Cerastium
banaticum, Petrorhagia illyrica and Dianthus tenuifolius;
- representatives of Liliaceae, Poaceae, Fagaceae,
Lamiaceae, Scrophulariaceae etc. families.
Theme
By its themes, the Systematic section is addressing
especially to pupils and students. It offers them a living background
necessary to the understanding of the unity and diversity of the living
world and helps them to form a scientific conception about world and
life.
